TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — William M. Harvill will be inducted into the University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences’ Hall of Fame in a ceremony Oct. 12 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Harvill, better known as Billy, served as the CEO of the Intermark Group in Birmingham for 23 years. Under his leadership Intermark grew to be the largest advertising agency in Alabama. Among the many awards he has received in recognition of his success include being named the 2005 CEO of the Year and Ad Man of the Year. He is the recipient of a Silver Medal Award from the Birmingham Advertising Federation, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Advertising Federation. He was also named the Small Business Person of the Year by the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
“The success he has achieved in the industry has been something he has been happy to share with us on many occasions,” said Dr. Loy Singleton, dean of the College.
Dr. Joesph Phelps, Chairman of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, said Harvill has had a tremendous impact on the program.
“He has helped a number of our students launch their careers,” Phelps said. “He has generously shared his time and his talents with the students and faculty.”
“Billy is well known as a community-oriented person always willing to work on worthwhile projects,” Singleton said. “He has a tremendous work ethic, wonderful sense of humor and we are very pleased to honor him this way.”
The C&IS Hall of Fame started 16 years ago to spotlight the accomplishments of people who brought fame to the College, University and state of Alabama.
“I’m pleased the Board of Visitors has selected him (Billy) as an inductee,” Singleton said.
