UPES & UPMS announce Enrollment Procedures

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Tuscaloosa City Schools Board of Education approved policy and procedure for open enrollment at University Place Elementary and Middle Schools.

This fall, the schools will return to its home in the Forrest Lake community at 2000 1st Avenue with an enhanced framework for learning following the April 27, 2011 tornadoes.

The school will utilize the STEAM curriculum. STEAM, a framework for learning science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics and how they are interrelated, is a project-based program that is engaging and promotes team development.

Students enrolled in the Tuscaloosa City Schools are eligible to apply for enrollment at University Place Elementary (K-5) and Middle School (6th grade for 2013-2014; 6th-7th for 2014-2015; 6th-8th 2015-2016). Lotteries will be held for any grade in which the number of applications exceeds the number of openings.

A limited number of seats are open for students living outside the University Place residential school zone. Students already zoned for UPES/MS through established attendance zones do not need to apply other than through the regular enrollment processes. All K-6 students enrolled in the Tuscaloosa City Schools are eligible to apply for University Place Elementary School/Middle School. Students who live in the zone of the Tuscaloosa City Schools but not currently attending a Tuscaloosa City School are eligible to apply; however, verification of residence must be provided along with application.

Eligibility for district enrollment is dependent upon the number of slots available by grade. If the applications received do not support a teacher, the district will deny all applicants for the applicable grade.

Applications will be accepted until July 12. For more information, visit www.tuscaloosacityschools.com.
