TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Oak Hill School will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 14, 2013, to celebrate the school’s new facility. The ceremony is set for 4 p.m. at Oak Hill at 3834 21st St. in Tuscaloosa.
“It is a very positive change that is driven by our growth and that’s exciting,” said Dr. Linda Harper, principal of Oak Hill. “Teachers and students are eager to return, not only because we’re growing in numbers, but because we are offering more innovative services to more students in a more central and workable facility.”
Oak Hill houses programs for the special needs students in grades 6-12; Success Prep, a program designed to help academically at-risk students who are at risk of dropping out of school, and STARS Academy, the system’s behavior alternative program.
The Board of Education recently approved the expansion of Success Prep from 9th grade to grades 6-12 and STARS Academy that will allow the system to serve more students in an effort to keep them on track for graduation. Success Prep provides a rigorous instructional program with support services for students. In addition to academic support, students will also receive wrap around services from various community collaboration partnerships.
“We’ve placed a new emphasis on all of the programs inside of this building,” stated Paul McKendrick, superintendent of Tuscaloosa City Schools. “We are excited about the possibilities available for success based on the student achievement that we have seen during the last two years. We have very committed teachers, parents are renewed because we have demonstrated our belief in their children’s potential for success, and we’ve got a great leader there.”
This event is open to the public. For more information, visit www.tuscaloosacityschools.com.
